There will
be numerous papers persented at this year's convention on topics
including Youth in Astronomy and a special presentation by the
International Dark Sky Association.
Attendees
are also invited to the BBQ Dinner which will be held on Friday
evening at the newly built Heavenview Observatory, which is located
only 5 miles from the convention site, on the property of New
Life Ranch in Eastern Oklahoma. In addition to the good food,
fun and fellowship, there will be plenty of time for observing
at the Observatory and it's dark site. Since this year's convention
coincides with the new moon, be sure and bring your scopes!
There will
be plenty of door prizes available for those in attendance supplied
by astronomical vendors from all over the nation. We will have
vendors in attendance from our local region. They will have their
wares out for sale. These vendors include: Lymax Earth and Sky
and others.
A banquet
will be held on Saturday evening, June 8th where awards and door
prizes will be presented. The guest speaker, Dr. Derek Sears of
the Arkansas-Oklahoma Center for Space and Planetary Sciences
will give a talk entitled "Hera and Andromeda: New insights
into the evolution and formation of the solar system."
Be sure to
bring your astrophotography! We are looking forward to the astrophoto
contest.
This is a great opportunity to show your talents to the region.
Prizes will be awarded in four categories: Deep Space, Star Fields,
Planets and Lunar, and Other Astronomical Phenomena (comets, etc.).
